As a practice with some of Katy’s top pediatric dentists we are always researching the best ways to safely and successfully treat our patients. We are proud to introduce the most advanced technology in laser dentistry. Our office offers the WaterLase iPlus and the Biolase Epic 10. With the use of these lasers we are able to treat apthous ulcers, dental decay, gum tissue procedures, teeth whitening and pain therapy. Listed below is more information about our lasers.

WaterLase iPlus

What is it?

Our goal as a pediatric practice is to make our patients as comfortable as possible and reduce any dental anxieties. As a parent, you know the noises from the drills and the thought of a needle can make a person uneasy. We have the option to reduce and/or eliminate those fears or keep our patients from developing those fears. The WaterLase iPlus is a dental laser that enables the dentist to use minimal and in some cases even no anesthetic or drills to perform many routine dental procedures!

Heat, vibration and pressure are the primary causes of pain associated with the use of the traditional dental drills. Since treating both hard and soft tissues (teeth and gums) with the WaterLase iPlus does not generate heat, vibration or pressure, many dental procedures can be performed nearly pain-free with less need for anesthesia, less use of the drill and fewer numb lips! Additionally, using the WaterLase iPlus for gum procedures reduces bleeding, post-operative pain, swelling and the need for pain medication in many cases.

How does it work?

The WaterLase iPlus combines water, air and laser energy for safe use on tissue in the mouth. Our teeth are partially made up of water and when the laser makes contact with the tooth it excites the water molecules to cut through the tooth. Since the laser continuously sprays out water it keeps the tooth hydrated preventing heat and giving kids a virtually pain free experience!

As a parent, you know how difficult it can be to schedule appointments around school, activities and your own work schedule. With the WaterLase iPlus, the need for anesthesia is reduced or eliminated allowing our pediatric dentists to complete more treatment in a single visit; therefore decreasing the number of appointments that may have been required with conventional dental treatment. BioLase Epic 10

The Biolase Epic 10 is a diode laser. We can use this laser for soft tissue (gums) procedures, teeth whitening and pain therapy.

Soft Tissue (Gums)

This laser has the ability to remove the harmful bacteria that can cause periodontal disease. It also allows for precision soft tissue (gums) procedures such as frenectomies, gum recontouring or removing gum tissue overgrowth.

Teeth Whitening

An advanced technology that allows the teeth to be bleached in 20 minutes

On average – 4 to 6 shades whiter

Little to no sensitivity

Actual bleaching time is 8 minutes – preparation time takes longer

No need to wear bleaching trays after laser bleaching

We do not recommend this type of whitening for our younger patients; however, it has been successful for our teenage patients and their parents. Please contact our office if you would like schedule an appointment.

Low Level Pain Therapy

The Low Level Pain Therapy (LLLT) has become a great success in accelerating wound healing, reducing pain and decreasing inflammation. Relief of TMJ pain is an example of successful low level pain therapy.
