The 50th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) kickstarted today with a lot of fanfare in Goa, and celebrities from across the country were present at its opening ceremony. Among the highlights of the day's events was when Rajinikanth was awarded the Icon of Golden Jubilee Award.
A source present at the venue tells us, "Superstar Rajinikanth was the second to arrive at the venue, after Karan Johar. Soon after, Amitabh Bachchan walked in. Rajinikanth and Big B have worked together in several films and are among the closest buddies in the industry. The two met in the green room and spent some quality time speaking to each other. They also sat next to each other at the event. When Rajinikanth went on stage, the audience stood up in respect. Both Amitabh Bachchan and minister Prakash Javadekar felicitated him with the award. Speaking on the occasion, Rajinikanth said that he was extremely happy to receive this prestigious award and thanked the Indian government for bestowing him with the honour. He dedicated his award to producers, directors, technicians and his fans. Even as he delivered his speech, the entire auditorium burst into loud cheers, with fans giving him a standing ovation."
