From its construction, to its recognition as a Historic Monument ... ... discover the whole history of the Blue Train! It was in 1900 , on the occasion of the great Universal Exposition, that the station buffet, future Blue Train, was built. It is Marius Toudoire , renowned architect who had built the Tower Clock and the facade of the Gare de Lyon, which entrusts the care of the work. The management of the Railway Company therefore wanted the creation of an unmissable gourmet stopover in a setting that was both luxurious, modern and legendary. The station buffet was inaugurated in 1901 by the President of the Republic Emile Loubet and quickly attracted high society and artists. In 1963, the buffet became "Le Train Bleu" , in homage to the "Paris-Ventimiglia" line dating from 1868, a legendary train that served the cities of the Côte d'Azur, along the Mediterranean. In 1972 , some rooms of the Blue Train were classified as historic monuments : that of the restaurant, the golden lounge and the Tunisian and Algerian lounges, as well as the passages and their decor. The reputation of the establishment is well established, as evidenced by the impressive list of personalities who succeed one another. The restaurant has also served as the backdrop for many film scenes including Nikita and Place Vendôme.
